These shoppers have been issued charge cards by selected chains of department stores. Through these cards, their purchase transactions are monitored by the department stores' information system. The cards function like credit cards, except that they are valid only at the outlets of the issuing department store chains. The billing system not only produces the monthly statement summarizing the amount that needs to be settled by the card holders, but also provides the store a report that highlights the card holders' spending pattern, including amount spent on the various product categories that the stores carry. Analyses of such reports show that these buyers spend at least USD 2000 per month on clothes and other personal accessories, household items, collectibles, etc.
