These real estate buyers are constantly on the lookout for overseas markets where real estate prices are depressed. They take advantage of the situation by investing in properties that have good prospects for price appreciation when the market rebounds. A good example was when a financial crisis hit Asia in 1997 while many construction projects were well underway. When such projects reached completion, real estate prices in the region were at an all time low because foreign companies and expatriates, who were expected to move in, postponed their plans. Many of those investors who rushed to make purchases are now enjoying their profits.
